Division of Long Term Care
Attn: 1915(c) Waiver Application
To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Kim Verbsky and I am a mother of a daughter with a life limiting illness, Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 2. This disease has ravaged her body and debilitated her independence. Being Kennady’s mom has propelled me into a career working with individuals with disabilities. I currently own 4 state licensed Adult Family Homes and provide 24 hour care for 15 adults with developmental disabilities, mental health issues and complex medical needs.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my experience. Currently 6 individuals in my care go to Varc, Inc in Viroqua WI. The ability to go to Varc has been vital to these members in their mental health and stability. For the members I care for that are able to vocalize their feelings they have been overwhelmingly devastated and scared of the idea that they could lose their ability to continue to go to Varc. Inc.
As a mother, caregiver and advocate for individuals with disabilities I am concerned the plan proposal you are submitting to the Center for Medicaid Services doesn’t allow access to facility based employment services.
The plan concerns me because people’s choices to maintain employment in a preferred setting are being limited.
I am asking you to please keep the full array of services intact in the State of Wisconsin. I have always been proud of the opportunities and choices that have been available to person’s with disabilities. As a mother it has given me hope that even with Kennady’s limitations she will have the opportunity to thrive as an adult in a work environment of her choice.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my concerns,
