I am a parent of a son who has epilepsy and is cognitively disabled. Ross is currently 30 years old, and he has been working at a Community Based Facility called Chippewa Falls Industries since he was 18. He loves to go to work and is very proud of the fact that he gets a check every two weeks. He has friends at his job and managers who he respects and "kids around with". Sometimes CRI holds little workshops for clients on such things as hygiene and filling out forms. DVR, associated with CRI, also tries to give Ross opportunities to go out into the community and learn various skills. Without these opportunities, Ross would be sitting at home in front of a TV or game. He wouldn't have developed the social skills and pride he has working his job. He couldn't compete in a real competitive job for minimum wage, but he does well working for a pro-rated minimum wage which is different. Please don't take away the array of services people with disabilities are offered. Help us keep our current Home and Community Based Settings. Ask the CMS for the sub regulatory guidelines for employment settings before the state of Wisconsin makes their decision so it can make a better one.
